Obituary of Guadalupe "Lupe" Cuevas
Guadalupe (Lupe) Cortez Cuevas, a remarkable and gentle woman was called home on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Guadalupe was born in Uhland, Texas and became a long-time resident of San Marcos, Texas. She lived a beautifully full life reaching the age of 95 at the time of her passing. During her active years, she was a dedicated member of the St. John’s Catholic Church Guadalupanas, a society dedicated to promoting a deeper knowledge of the Catholic faith and the importance of devotion to our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of God. She was also a founding member and served as an officer of the organization.
Lupe had progressive views on life. She was an avid reader, determined to be informed of current events and to share her opinions with her children and grandchildren. She followed politics closely, never missing a chance to vote or an opportunity to support a candidate in whom she believed. Educated through life experiences, she shared her wisdom in an open and frank manner balancing her thoughts and opinions with a mischievous and playful nature.
In Christian faith, Ms. Cuevas consistently opened her home to those needing a helping hand, a hot meal, or a place to rest. Through the Grace of God and with her unwavering faith, she continued to live a full life after the loss of her first child Lupita (1944), her husband, Felipe (1965) and her eldest son, Phillip (1989).
During her marriage, Lupe’s family grew to include seven children and provided her with many opportunities to acquire useful talents. Through diligence and with purpose, she taught herself the skill of interior vehicle restoration, the art of sewing, exceptional culinary skills and stellar money management abilities.
She was a gentle and accepting mother and grandmother, always willing to offer a helping hand, with an added bit of prayer simply to make sure she had done everything possible to help. She had captivating story telling abilities and would easily pass the time entertaining her many grandchildren.
Although small in stature, her charismatic nature was like the many timeless big screen stars of yesterday. She was gracious, loving, faithful, committed, honorable, and glamorous in her own unique way. She valued hard work, family, and faith. She leaves a warm and loving family with expectations that they will carry forth her legacy of always being welcoming, accepting and faithful.
Lupe’s final care was entrusted to her family with the assistance of Heart to Heart Hospice. The family appreciates the support and guidance they provided over the last two years. The family thanks Ms. Jacqueline Whisenant for the many volunteer hours spent with the family. Additionally the family also thanks Judith Senties for her attentive care of our mother.
