This is a newspaper clipping from the Austin American Statesman, stating that cousin Ben was onboard the USS Alabama, in Tokyo Bay, at the signing of the Japanese surrender.

Our sincerest condolences, may Ben rest in peace. I know we haven't met but I do remember hearing stories from my Dad and Grandfather about the Pinales families. Wish we had met y'all. Isaac Pinales (Dad) and Abundio Pinales (Grandfather) family.

I will cherish Tio Ben's smile, kindness and way of remembering the important things to ask and make people feel welcome. I will admire his great hair and honourable work ethic. Both him and the family are in my heart.

I'm going to miss my Grandfather. I will remember him always as a very Independent, educated, polite and humble man who loved photography and cars. There is not one memory that doesn't involve my Grandparents. My brother and I were with them through our childhood and adulthood. My Grandfather stayed with us when my Grandmother passed away. And we were there the day before he died. Me, my brother and my parents heard his last words of "I love you and see you tomorrow." I will cherish that forever.
When we lived in Pearland, My brother and I would stay with my grandparents every Saturday and go out to eat. Often during our visits we would laugh a lot and watch movies together including wrestling, and watch my Grandfather's favorite tv show Sábado Gigante! He always had his camera out taking pictures of us, even caught us when we weren't looking too. My Grandparents then moved to New Braunfels when I was 13 years old. I have the memory of my Grandparents picking me up from school and watching me sing at my school's talent show. We went to their apartment every Friday or they would come to our house every Friday. We went to the museum together, we went to the movies together, we went to the lake. We spent all holidays together. My Grandparents always said they moved out to be close to us. Anytime I was in distraught, I would confide in my grandfather many times and if I ever shed a tear he would pull out his handkerchief and wipe it away. There were also thoughtful times like when he showed up one day with cold medicine because I was sneezing a lot the day before. So many memories...
I going to miss him because we were that close. But then again I always have my memories and I heard his last words. Rest in Peace, Grandfather, love you always.
Fun fact - He was no fool to technology, he had his own computer to check his email and bank, he also had his own photo editing software so he can customize and edit his own pictures. He was 95 years old!

I will remember my grandfather as a hard working man that loved cars, photography, at all my childhood plays and activities, and telling me stories about his time in the Navy during WWII, I was a very lucky grandchild that had the most amazing grandparents. I’m at peace knowing that my grandparents are together once again, for eternity and with our Heavenly Father. RIP Grandpa, I love you and you’ll be in my heart forever. ❤️
