Obituary of Vivian Wohlfarth
Our beloved Vivian Wohlfarth, age 80, resident of Austin, Texas was called by our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 6, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Vivian was born in Flushing, Queens, NY. She had a healthy childhood until the age of 9, when she developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. In 1949, she was the poster child for that disease. She also battled diabetes throughout her life. She raised a son almost entirely by herself, all the while working 2 and 3 jobs.
Her soprano voice and ability to play the organ always brought looks of amazement, and thunderous applause. Her great love was music, and throughout her years working, attending seminars, classes, and workshops, she managed to obtain a Doctorate in Music. She was a faithful employee of the Diocese of Brooklyn/Queens and Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Bayside, Queens for 52 years as Director of Music. She played every mass, sang, did the weddings, funerals, and special masses. She taught both children and adults to sing, and directed the choir. She also marketed and produced concerts with her choir and the Art Strings Quartet.
She was independent, teaching her grandchildren not to settle for anything but the best, and to stand up for themselves and their beliefs. She enjoyed her casino visits (especially Thanksgiving in Atlantic City with family), getting coffee and pastries from the deli, eating at the Floral Park diner, and visiting with friends. She always was the first to leave a birthday message for the grandkids, and great-grands, singing Happy Birthday to them over the phone. The simple things in life were what mattered the most.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bryant & Josephine Miller. She is survived by her son, Eugene Wohlfarth and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Christian Harkins and wife Tori; Carla Oertli and husband Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Piper Harkins, Teagan Harkins, Lucille Hadden, Cody Oertli, and Clyde Oertli; Sister, Marilyn Milouski; nephew, Kurt Milouski; and her best friend Mary D’Dogue, her faithful pitbull companion. She is also survived by numerous beloved cousins and friends, both in New York and Texas.
