Obituary of Ofelia Urrutia Velasquez
Please share a memory of Ofelia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Ofelia Urrutia Velasquez, age 79, resident of Tomball, Texas was called by our Heavenly Father on Friday, October 15, 2021.
Ofelia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 25yrs.: Epifanio S. Velasquez; parents: Alfredo & Maria Urrutia; brothers: Joe Urrutia Sr. and Alvardo Urrutia; daughter in law: Dora Velasquez.
Our beloved Queen was a beautiful, loving, caring, strong and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone when she could. Grandma would always cook for all the Velasquez family, friends as my great grandfather would plan gatherings. She was always in the kitchen; her mole was the best along with her tamales. When it came to her making her mole she made two different pans one with peanut butter and one without and we all knew why she made two different ones because one of her children didn’t like peanut butter. She loved to see families come together and asked that we always stay together as a family.
Grandma was a member of Mariachi of San Marcos for several years and that’s where she learned to play the guitar. Boy she loved playing her guitar. She loved being in the group so much that she got some of her granddaughters to join. Her other skill she had was being a seamstress, she would make the Mariachi outfits ad ties. My mom Jessica said that grandma would have her, Jennifer and Sonia help her do all the little things to make it all come together. She took pride in her work, so they made sure they did it right cause if not they knew she will get mad at them and have to do it again until it was perfect.
For those who knew Grandma she was always a hard worker and would never sit down and relax. Grandma worked for San Marcos hospital for several years always getting asked to work double shifts and she would never tell them no. Tom her son in law and Tia Ana at one time had asked grandma to retire and move in with them, but she refused. Grandma worked for San Marcos schools as well, and there too she would work double shifts. Grandma couldn’t see herself not staying busy even though she was tired. Sometimes instead of taking a lunch break she would go play at a funeral or pray to someone at the hospital. Her family would call her to ask if they had to make an appointment with her because sometimes they could never find her, If she wasn’t at work she was off playing music somewhere. Now grandma is up in heaven with grandpa probably cooking and playing her guitar with her brother. We love you grandma until we meet again.
She is survived by her daughters: Ana Rosa Hernandez (Crespin), Ana Maria Pena (Thomas), Teresa Velasquez (Carlos Ruiz) and Virginia Escobedo (Arturo); sons: Domingo Velasquez Sr. and Jesse Velasquez Sr. (Susie Garza); sisters: Anita Castillo (Richard), Margarita Urrutia (Jaime Gamez), Auralia Gallegos (Felix) and Dominga Gamez (David); brother: Pedro Urrutia Sr. (Molly); grandchildren: 21, great grandchildren: 35, and great, great grandchildren: 9; and with other family members and friends.
