Obituary
Obituary of Josephine Mendez
Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Josephine Mendez, age 35, resident of San Marcos, TX, was called by our Heavenly Father
June 28, 2023.
Josephine Mendez was born July 16, 1987, in San Marcos, TX, to Irma G. Mendez, and the late
Secundino DeLeon. Josephine, however, was raised by her stepfather David Garcia.
Josie is preceded indeath by her maternal grandmother, Belia G. Mendez, and paternal grandparents John and Mercedes Garcia.
She is survived by Mother Irma Mendez, daughter Serina Eloisa Garcia, brothers Christopher
Mendez, and Tommy Garcia (Mari), and nephew Abraxsus Garcia.
The past 35 years with Josie have been an adventure. As a child she was always quiet, shy, but always
smiled. Josie growing up always loved to be around family especially her cousins. Josie had two brothers
that she shared time with, but she was especially close to her younger brother Tommy. If you knew
them, you would know they did a lot with each other even into their adulthood. She did share time with
her older brother but being older meant he was always doing something else. Every summer when she
was a teenager she would go and stay with her cousin Liz and every summer they would go to
Schlitterbahn. Josie always said how much that would make her summer special. Her cousin Liz also
made sure she had the best Senior prom by doing her hair and make-up and driving her and her friends
in her convertible Chrysler LeBaron to the hall at Texas State. Josie always said how much that meant to
her because for that one day she felt like a princess and that is exactly how she looked. Josie graduated
from Lockhart High School in 2005.
Many years later Josie met the father of her only child, Pablo Garcia and in 2010, Josie gave birth to her
daughter Serina Eloisa Garcia. The love she had for Serina was infinite. Josie always looked forward to
all the memories she would have with her daughter and that she did. Every chance she got she would
make a new memory with her. Although all the years weren’t great, Josie did the best of what she could
so that Serina would always know how very much she was loved.
I think a lot of us can say over all the years we have made some great memories. Josie loved being
outside, going swimming, bowling, volleyball, and loved sharing time at amusement parks with her
family. One thing we can all say about her is that the Love she had for all of us was amazing. The last
moments of her life were shared with her cousin Zach. Zach really wanted Josie to strive for better, so
he opened his home to her and Serina, and even made sure she had transportation to get around for
Serina and to better her life. She even spent many days and nights with her cousin Val, Leno, Ryan,
Daniella, Jacob Andrew, and Josh and his family just spending time and playing video games. Even when
she was going through something herself, she would always send encouraging messages to all of us,
especially birthday wishes. If she was ever mad you would never know because she was always so soft
spoken. Family meant so much to her and it showed. Through all the pictures you have viewed today, of
which those are not all of them, you can clearly see how important her family was to her, especially
during holidays.
Not a day goes by that we don’t think of you in some way, especially as we prepared for today. Today
has been hard for all of us that hold you close to our hearts. You will forever be remembered and always
thought of. We will all make sure that your daughter never forgets just how special you were to us and
just how great of a person and mother you were to her. Fly high Josie, and until we meet again, we all
love you very much.
