Leopoldo Melendez passed away in his home November 2, 2023 at the age of 88. He was born November 15. 1934 to Francisco and Cleofas Melendez. Leopoldo was known by by many as “Polo” he was hard working husband and father. He is survived by his six children, sons: Mike and Steven; daughters: Angie, Alifonsa, Alice and Dolores. Leopoldo is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64yrs.: Teresa R. Melendez; parents: Francisco & Cleofas Melendez; brothers: Bernadino Melendez and Natividad Melendez; sisters: Petra Hernandez and Anastacia Rios. Polo worked as a farm hand/equipment operator for a local rancher/farmer for many years. Following that he worked for his son in law Melvin Harborth at Davis Tire in Wimberley, Texas fixing flat tires and mounting and balancing new tires for their customers. He worked with another son in law Marty Skiles Sr. at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas. He enjoyed being the only tire man in the pits as there were a lot of flat tires every Saturday night. He also worked at Longhorn Machine Works as a machine operator until they closed. He then decided to work from the comfort of his own home. Polo was well known for his knowledge and mechanical ability working on small engines. People would come from miles away to have him service or fix their lawn mowers, chainsaws, weedeaters and trimmers. He really enjoyed hunting deer and dove. He and his friend Alvino would spend hours hunting that’s what they called it. Their time was mostly spent just sitting in Alvino’s truck conversing of time gone by. After his full retirement he mostly enjoyed just having family coming together at his house for no particular reason. Wrestling was his number one TV entertainment. Polo was a simple man focused on providing for his children without worrying about himself. His passing will leave an unfillable gap in the hearts of all his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide and love will forever be remembered. He is survived by his sons: Mike Melendez (Irene) and Steven Melendez; daughters: Angie Skyles (Marty), Alifonsa Perez, Alice Tenorio and Dolores Castillo; sisters: Tomasa Ramirez and Julia Hernandez; grandchildren: 18; great grandchildren: 24; and with other family members and friends.
