Please share a memory of Victoria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Victoria H. Esquivel peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on December 14, 2023, at the age of 89. She was a devoted spouse of 62 years and a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maximo and Francisca; her husband, Candelario “Cale” Sr., and her cherished sons, Candelario “Buick” Jr., and Arturo “Art.” She is survived by her daughters, Dora, Norma Ramos, Olivia Duran (Raymond), and Rachel, as well as her sons Armando “Joe,” and John Cristian. Her memory continues through her daughters, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. She was the bedrock of our family, devoting her life to our family and her friends, all while dedicating over 20 years of service at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). In retirement, she enjoyed caring for her family, cooking, knitting, quilting, crocheting and tending to her roses, canna lilies, bluebonnets and other wild flowers. Mother was the reliable go-to person for every challenge and hurdle, which she met with determination and resolve. She was an original multi-tasker, able to hold one of us in one arm when we were children—or one of our own children—while seamlessly managing to cook, clean and tend to laundry simultaneously. She will best be remembered and defined by her unwavering commitment to our family, friends and neighbors, her work ethic, exceptional skillfulness and resourcefulness and resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges. Her culinary skills and ability to whip up a delicious meal in a matter of minutes were legendary, as were her crocheting, needlepoint and quilt making skills. Her Christian faith remained a guiding light throughout her life. Her Bible, always by her bedside, was her constant source of inspiration, hope, guidance and comfort. Mother lived her life by an unwavering belief in the words of Psalms 23: “The Lord is My Shepherd; I shall not want.” She always reminded us that in the shelter of faith, there is eternal peace. Mom’s absence is deeply felt, encompassing every cherished name she was called: Toya, Toyita, Mom, Momma, Mami, Memo, Ama, Viejita, Madre, Madrecita, Granny and Grandma. The family finds solace in knowing our dear Mother is at peace, in the beautiful memories she left behind and the special moments we shared together.
